Environmental conservation sensitization meeting

This meeting was organized by courtesy of Corner Ndizi Self Help Group and involved Kenya Fluorspar Company and the local administration and was held on 22nd October 2014 at Kewapmwen Primary School grounds.

The Agenda of the meeting was to establish guidelines for:-

  1. Peaceful co-existence of the Company and the Kewapmwen Community residing within and outside the lease area.
  2. Ensuring no further invasion of and deforestation of leased land by individuals and the Self Help Group will enforce this and also attend to any violations of this policy and Company complaints;
  3. Environmental Conservation efforts to be geared towards achieving a balanced ecosystem through afforestation and reafforestation

The meeting was attended by over 60(Sixty) residents and members of Corner Ndizi Self Help Group which is an organization formed by the residents with the purpose of achieving economic stability among the residents. In attendance from Kenya Fluorspar Company were the Managing Director Mr. Nico Spangenberg, the Human Resource Manager Mr. Charles K. Korir and the Community Liaison Officer Mr. Elijah Chesumer.

At the end of the meeting Kenya Fluorspar Company and the community agreed to work together towards achieving peaceful co-existence and conservation of the environment.

Kenya Fluorspar Company through the Managing Director Mr. Nico Spangenberg offered 4 (Four) scholarships to eligible youth from the area to pursue Certificate/Diploma Courses at Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) with effect from January 2015.

The Company has in October 2014 awarded a tender to Corner Ndizi Self help Group to take care of environment management assignments within the Company area of operations and has offered employment to 12 (Twelve) people from the Kewapmwen Community.
