Fluorspar Primary School class 8 of 2013 excelled and recorded a number of highs with the excellent results achieved in the Kenya Primary Certificate Examinations (KCPE).
The class recorded an average score of 341.42 (68.1%) which is the highest in the history of the School. In addition the school was positioned no 2 out of 360 schools in the County in English.
The three top students, who achieved a mark of higher than 400 (80%), are as follows: Otieno Collins Omondi 412 (82.4%); Kamuren Kevin Kimutai 409 (81.8%); and Kiptanui Mark Kipkosgei 405 (81.0%).
The school achievements are as follows: No 4 out of 120 schools in the District; 12 out of 26 students achieving an average of 70% or higher; 10 students achieved a score of between 60% and 70%; and 4 students achieved a result qualifying for a National School within Kenya.
The benefit of the above results is that at least 22 out of 26 students from a poor or disadvantaged background will now be afforded an opportunity to receive access to a quality Secondary school allowing them to develop.
The above results are mainly due to hard work and dedication of the complement of teachers at the school coupled with facilities like a state of the art library presented by the Field-Marsham Foundation in 2012 as well as e-learning facilities.
In addition the Company ensures that the School is well equipped with learning aides, books etc and the providing of boarding facilities for the students from class 5 preparing them from an early stage for this milestone examination.
A function was held on 20 January to celebrate the achievements where awards were made to the top 3 students, most improved student as well as to reward the English teacher, Mrs Caroline Koskei, for achieving position 2 within the County.
In addition a well wisher donated a laptop computer which was awarded to the top student as reward for his overall excellence and consistent performance throughout the year.
The Company confirmed that it will provide full sponsorship to national schools for the top 6 pupils of the 2013 candidate class.
At present, the company sponsors 19 other secondary school students whose parents either work for the Company or are from the surrounding Community.
The day was concluded with refreshments. A celebratory dinner will be held for students, parents and teachers at a later stage.
