Kenya: World Class Taekwondo Centre Opens in Kerio Valley

A world class Taekwondo Training Centre was launched at Fluorspar in Kerio Valley. Champion Taekwondo Kenya, an initiative of the World Taekwondo champion Victor Luke of Canada, will see the children learn the sport and take it as a career. Speaking during the launch, Victor, who is also the owner of Champion Taekwondo Academy in Canada, said the idea of establishing the facility was meant to nurture Kenyan talent to embrace the sport and become international players. “Kenya has been performing well in Olympics and they need to embrace diverse sports apart from the track races. By doing so, more world beaters will be produced here,” he added.
The facility which is the only one of its kind in Kenya is capable of training 1000 students at once and has the instructors from Korea and Canada. It is supported by the Canadian people , Fluorspar Kenya and Champions Taekwondo. “There are no such facility for taekwondo in Kenya and I am urging the community to make use of it because of its professional personnel and equipment,” Victor added. Victor said education coupled with taekwondo will open up doors for the Kenyan youth as the sport instills confidence and good morals into s student thus enables them become focused in life. The facility worth US$200,000 (Sh16.8m) targets children because they are easy to be influenced.
